COCCC Chinese Lunar New Year Festival 2016

All are welcome at Chinese Lunar new year celebration

Kitchener (January 28, 2016) When the Central Ontario Chinese Cultural Centre (COCCC) first began in 1973, it was to build a sense of belonging in the local Chinese community. One of their signature events, the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival has been a long standing tradition. The COCCC saw the celebration as an opportunity to bring people together to get to know one another, and their community.

Over 40 years later, the festival is still the highlight of their year and the COCCC hopes to make the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival a celebration not just for the Chinese community but for those of all backgrounds and cultures.

Frances Tse, Treasurer of the Board for the COCCC lives and breathes the COCCC objectives:  to promote the Chinese culture, to promote goodwill and mutual understanding among different cultures and to provide culture-related programs and services that meet the needs of the community. “It’s not just about Chinese culture,” shares Tse. “It’s about realizing we are a part of a bigger community, that it’s up to us to be a part of that community, and work together to make this community a better place.”

The festival will be held on Sunday, January 31st from 12:00pm – 4:00pm at the Stanley Park Community Centre. The free celebration will feature food, performances, and activities for people of all ages, and from different cultures.
